The color drained from her face as she read the letter. The accusations, the cold, clinical language – it all felt like a personal affront. A cold wave swept over her, leaving her shivering despite the warm afternoon sunlight streaming into her room.

She slowly crumpled the paper in her hand, the crisp pages becoming a tight ball. She felt an overwhelming urge to crush it further, to obliterate the words, to erase the very suggestion that she could have been dishonest.

“That… that’s simply not true,” she whispered, her voice barely above a breath. Her eyes flickered around the room, as though searching for a witness to her own innocence.
