He stood there, casually chatting with the groomsmen, as if he hadn't spent their last conversation gaslighting her about the stability of their relationship. Leo’s face felt hot, his cheeks prickling as he watched David's easy smile. He gripped his own beer bottle so hard he thought the glass would crack.

"Excuse me," Leo muttered to the server, pushing past the tray of canapés. He needed air. The air in the ballroom seemed to thicken, pressing down on him. Each laugh David emitted was like a physical blow.

He strode towards the open doors leading to the patio. His steps were long and determined, like he was trying to outrun an invisible threat. He was acutely aware of every muscle in his body, tensed and ready to fight.
