The champagne flute nearly shattered in Amelia’s hand. There, across the crowded dance floor, was Liam. Laughing, of all things. Like the last two years hadn't happened. Like he hadn’t left her with a gaping hole in her life. She took a furious gulp, the bubbles doing nothing to soothe the sudden, fiery heat that bloomed in her chest.

Her jaw clenched. She hadn’t expected to see him. Hadn't prepared herself for this… this blatant disregard for the emotional wreckage he’d left behind. The band struck a particularly upbeat chord, but all Amelia heard was the thrumming of her own pulse, a frantic drumbeat against her ribs.

She spotted Chloe, the bride, and forced a smile, making a beeline for her. "Chloe, darling! The flowers are divine!" she gushed, trying to inject a normalcy she certainly wasn't feeling. Her hands, however, gave her away, fluttering erratically as she spoke.
