The sudden change in her routine was the first clue. Leaving early for work, coming home late, always on her phone, always in private. James confronted her, but she just brushed him off. He knew something was wrong.

One night, he saw the phone light up in the middle of the night. He saw her face illuminated by the screen, as if she was talking to someone. He felt a cold dread creep into his heart.

He waited until she was asleep. Then, he crept into her room and looked at her phone. He saw the messages. He felt a wave of nausea wash over him.

He staggered back to his own bed, the image of those messages burned into his mind. He lay there, staring at the ceiling, feeling the world crumble around him.
