Gemotions

The phone rang late at night, and when she answered, she spoke in whispers, retreating to the kitchen. He was not meant to hear. The hushed tone, the stolen glances, the way she clutched the phone to her chest – all of it screamed secrecy. This filled him with a bitter, sour anger.

He lay in bed, feigning sleep, listening to her voice. He pictured her, talking to someone else, and a terrible, destructive desire filled him.

He wanted to scream, to lash out, to destroy everything. He closed his eyes, his fists clenched, and his jaw locked. He felt the blood pounding in his temples.

He could barely breathe.
