He stared at the two figures embracing outside the movie theater, the popcorn bucket clutched uselessly in his hand. The laughter, the stolen glances, the shared jokes… all felt like a sick joke now. He had spent the entire week planning this evening, picking out the perfect movie, making reservations at his favorite restaurant.

His breath hitched. The air felt thin, difficult to breathe. He wanted to shout, to scream, to lash out. He wanted to destroy something. He balled his fists, nails digging into his palms. He didn't even know her name, and the thought was infuriating.
