The demolition crew's trucks rumbled to a halt, the early morning sun glinting off the chrome and steel. Sarah saw them from her car, parked a block away. Her hands clenched around the steering wheel until her knuckles were white. *Not yet,* she thought, her stomach twisting. She should have fought harder. She should have chained herself to the front door.

Her legs felt heavy as she finally got out of the car. The air was thick with the scent of dust and diesel. She walked towards the house, each step a reluctant march. Her jaw tightened as she saw the orange cones surrounding the property. This was their final warning.

"Hey!" she shouted, her voice sharper than she intended. The foreman, a man with a clipboard and a bored expression, looked up. He didn't seem to care.
