The inconsideration was astounding. Michael threw the newspaper onto the coffee table with excessive force. He could feel his face burning. James wanted a dog. A DOG! He'd spent months carefully arranging their apartment to be a haven of cleanliness and calm.

He stormed into the kitchen, grabbing a glass of water, his hand shaking slightly. James was in the living room, already browsing dog breeds online. He was ignoring his obvious need to be heard.

He took a deep breath, trying to control the tremor in his voice. "James," he began, his voice strained. "Do you realize what having a dog would entail? The noise, the mess, the constant need for attention? It's absurd!"

James just waved a dismissive hand, still staring at the screen. Michael felt a tremor of fury, a dark, churning sensation in his chest.
