He stared at the television, the screen reflecting his own enraged face. The reality show judge had just praised the contestant's rendition of "Burning Bridges." The song he'd written, poured blood, sweat, and tears into. It was unadulterated garbage, a hollow imitation devoid of feeling or understanding.

He lunged for the remote, switching off the television with a violent click. His heart hammered in his chest. His breath came in ragged gasps. He wanted to tear the television from its stand, smash it to pieces. He wanted to confront the judge, the contestant, anyone involved in this travesty.

He walked over to his piano and sat down, his hands trembling as he touched the keys. He tried to start the song, but the memory of the television's version interfered with his ability to play it.
