The cold seeped into her bones. Amelia crossed her arms tightly, a futile attempt to ward off the chill emanating from the metal walls. Three hours. This was absurd. She’d been on her way to an important meeting, the culmination of weeks of hard work. Now, this. Her carefully crafted presentation, her flawless pitch… all for nothing.

Her stomach churned, a physical manifestation of her escalating discontent. She shot a look at David, her colleague, who was fiddling nervously with his tie. She wanted to scream.

She pressed her palms against the cool metal of the elevator doors, as if she could force them open through sheer willpower. The silence was deafening, punctuated only by the shallow, rapid breaths that she took.

"This is completely unacceptable," she announced, her voice tight and clipped. "Utterly, completely unacceptable."
