The flickering light was driving him mad. He tugged at his collar, feeling the fabric constrict around his neck. Three hours. He had to get out of here. He had a deadline. A massive deadline. This wasn’t just an inconvenience; it was a disaster. He paced the confines of the elevator, each circuit a cage around his mounting disquiet.

Across from him, Maria, his coworker, was calmly reading a magazine. He glared at her, her apparent tranquility fueling his own internal furnace. Did she not realize the enormity of the situation?

He kicked the wall again, this time harder. The sound echoed in the small space, a hollow, unsatisfying thud. He felt a tremor in his hands, a physical manifestation of his simmering fury.
