The silence was suffocating. She felt her chest tighten, the pressure building with each passing minute. Three hours. She had an interview. A career-defining interview. Now, this. Her meticulously planned outfit felt like a suffocating shroud. She felt a burning, a seething rage.

Across from her, Robert, the senior partner, was calmly reading the Wall Street Journal. She felt a wave of icy fury at his apparent indifference.

She kicked the side of the elevator, then immediately regretted it when her foot throbbed with pain. The pain, however, did not compare to the burning anger inside.

"This is absolutely appalling," she hissed, her voice barely a whisper. “Absolutely.”
