“I am *not* okay with this!” I spat the words, the venom stinging the roof of my mouth. My knuckles were white as I gripped the edge of my desk, my gaze fixed on the congratulatory email. Liam. He’d barely been here a year!

My chest felt tight, constricted. I could feel my pulse hammering against my temples. I slammed my fist against my desk, the sudden impact momentarily numbing the feeling.

I needed to leave. To breathe. I grabbed my bag, not bothering to acknowledge my coworker’s curious glances. The elevator seemed to move at a snail’s pace.
