Gemotions

The letter arrived via email, the subject line a deceptively simple "Regarding…" Amelia had almost deleted it, thinking it was spam. But something in the subject line, a faint familiarity, had made her hesitate. As she read the words, cold dread crept into her bones.

She sat motionless, her fingers frozen on the keyboard. Her breathing became shallow and rapid. Her heart hammered against her ribs. She felt as though the blood was beginning to boil.

She spun away from the desk, unable to look at the screen any longer. She went and stood in front of the sink, running cold water on her wrists. The cold did not soothe the heat that roared within her.
