Her voice was harsh, cutting through the silence of the hospital room. “So, you’re telling me… after everything… there’s *another* one?” Olivia glared at her mother, who lay weak and pale in the bed. The woman’s confession, a whisper against the backdrop of beeping machines, had felt like a final insult.

Olivia moved quickly around the room, picking up items and discarding them. The flowers, the get-well cards, the half-eaten fruit – all now felt tainted by the secret. She was overcome with the feeling of betrayal.

She walked out and slammed the door, ignoring her sister.
