The discovery left David feeling… hollow. He sat on the floor, the open bank statement spread before him like a death sentence. Twenty years. He stumbled to the balcony, leaning against the railing. The city lights blurred through his unshed tears. Was it mistrust? Disdain? A plan for the future that didn’t include him? He felt a sense of disorientation, a twisting knot in his stomach.
