The digital display blinked mockingly. Five figures. Under her husband's name. After all the financial arguments, the constant struggle to make ends meet, the way he always complained about needing to be thrifty, it was all a ruse. She slumped onto the couch, the air heavy in her lungs.

She imagined him, smug, secretly wealthy while she worried about bills. The injustice of it sent a cold shiver down her spine. Her fists clenched. She wanted to scream. She wanted to break something.

She looked around the room, at their shared belongings, at the pictures on the wall. The laughter, the love, the life they created… Was any of it real? She felt a sudden urge to flee, to escape the suffocating weight of this new reality. She grabbed her keys and walked out of the house, the door slamming shut with a resounding thud.
