"They call it 'inspired by,' " the lawyer said, his voice as calm as a placid lake. Sarah found herself pacing, her hands wringing. Her bold, abstract canvases, full of life and color, were being sold as cheap copies in department stores.

She felt like she was trapped in a nightmare, one that had been going on for a week. A pressure built behind her eyes, the insistent pounding of a drum. The copies were everywhere – on throw pillows, phone cases, and greeting cards.

"They're profiting off my creativity," she choked out. The injustice of it all was a physical weight. She slammed her fist on the table, the action a small, desperate act. It felt like her whole world was being eroded.
