He stared at the grade, 55%, with an incredulous expression. His face flushed a fiery red. Ethan’s hands clenched into fists, the knuckles turning white. He’d stayed up all night to study for the exam. He was certain he had answered all the questions correctly. He had even used a highlighter to find the most important parts of each chapter. What was going on?

He pushed back from his desk so quickly the chair tipped and clattered to the floor. The sound startled him, but he barely noticed. His mind whirled, desperately searching for an explanation. He picked up the exam, the paper crackling in his grip. The professor’s comments were vague and unhelpful, adding fuel to his rising anger.
