The professor’s voice, usually so calm and measured, cracked with emotion. "They can't just do this!" he exclaimed, slamming his fist on the lectern. The sound echoed through the nearly empty lecture hall. The professor was a man of logic and reason, but right now, logic had failed. The building shook from the impact of the blow.

His gaze swept over the handful of students remaining, their faces pale and drawn. He had dedicated his career to this university. He had poured his heart and soul into his students and his subject. To see it all crumble felt like a personal loss.
