The air in the student union felt thick and oppressive, a suffocating blanket woven from disbelief and rage. Maya sat at a table, her untouched lunch congealing in front of her. She’d always considered the university a beacon of hope, a place where she could grow and learn. Now, it was just…ending.

She pushed her plate away. Her stomach churned. The news had left her feeling hollow, as though a vital part of her had been ripped away. She wanted to scream, to lash out, but the sheer enormity of the situation had paralyzed her.

She stared out the window, watching the crowds of students milling about, oblivious. The irony of it all felt like a physical blow.
