He found them on his doorstep – a small, unassuming bouquet of yellow roses. A silent insult. "Damn it," Mark muttered, kicking the doorframe as he entered his apartment. He didn’t bother to take off his coat, instead flinging it onto the floor. The air in the apartment suddenly felt thick, suffocating. His jaw tightened. He glared at the roses, their cheerful color grating on his nerves. He grabbed a pair of scissors and savagely began snipping at the stems, the fragrant heads falling to the floor.
