The rhythmic thudding of the jackhammer was relentless. I pressed my hands against my temples, willing the pressure to ease. It did not. The vibrations seemed to seep into my bones, a physical manifestation of the mental clutter that had consumed me.

My focus, usually laser-sharp, had dissolved into a watery mess. I stared at the spreadsheet on my computer screen, the numbers blurring into an indecipherable jumble. The air in my apartment was thick, heavy with the dust that slipped through the cracks. It was like living inside a construction site.

"Honestly," I muttered to myself, the words barely audible. "How am I supposed to concentrate?" I slumped back in my chair, the fight drained from me. I needed to get this done, but the task seemed insurmountable, a colossal mountain blocking my path.
