Gemotions

The bell above the door chimed, a sharp, piercing sound that cut through the already thick atmosphere. Sam flinched, the sound echoing the rapid thumping in his chest. The shop was a kaleidoscope of objects, a jumbled mess of trinkets and treasures, a visual assault that amplified his inner turmoil. The air felt thick, heavy, making it difficult to breathe. He wanted to run, to disappear.

He moved slowly, his gaze darting around the room, desperately trying to find something, anything, to ground him. He felt disconnected, detached, as though he was watching himself from a distance.

And then, there it was. The glint of gold, the sparkle of diamonds. His grandmother’s ring, undeniably. He knew the odds were against him, but he couldn't tear his eyes away.

He felt the hot sting of tears behind his eyes.
