The clicking of the keyboard next to her felt like a relentless drumbeat against her ears. She forced a smile for the new hire, but the muscles in her face felt stiff, unnatural. The sheer volume of information she needed to impart made her head ache, a dull throb that worsened with each passing minute.

"Right, so, the client database is accessed..." she began, her voice flat. She felt a profound sense of exhaustion, as if all her energy had been siphoned away. She blinked rapidly, trying to clear the fog that was clouding her vision.

The thought of doing this for eight more hours made her stomach clench. She longed to escape, to run far away from the screens and the constant buzz of conversation.
