“We need you at forward, Daniel.” The words hung in the air, heavy and unwelcome. Daniel, a defender, had built his game around anticipating the opponent’s moves, not initiating attacks. His hands, usually steady and reliable, began to tremble.

He felt a deep sense of dislocation as he took his place on the offensive side of the field. The game was a blur of movement and screaming instructions he barely registered. He kept losing his position.

He saw the ball coming towards him and stumbled. The other team charged and scored. He felt the weight of responsibility crashing down on him.
