Liam slumped against the wall, the cold plaster offering no solace. His grandfather's funeral. He was already late. The delay felt like a cruel joke, a cosmic punishment. He closed his eyes, replaying the last conversation he had with his grandfather, each word echoing in the silence.

He pushed off the wall and began pacing, his steps erratic and agitated. He gnawed on his lip, a habit he hadn't indulged in since childhood. He pulled at his collar, feeling as though the air had been sucked out of the terminal.

The image of his weeping family, of the empty chair at the service, was like a physical ache. The weight of his absence was a crushing burden.
