Her breath hitched as she received a call from the university. It was a formal request for her to meet with the academic integrity board. A meeting, a formality. The blood drained from her face.

She stared out of the window at the rain. The drops streamed down the glass, blurring her vision, mirroring the turmoil within her. Each drop falling, each second passing, felt like a slow, inexorable march towards her ruin.

She dropped to the floor, pulling her knees to her chest. She closed her eyes, willing the anxiety to subside, but it only amplified, turning her stomach into knots.
