John felt a strange disconnect. He was watching himself, a version of himself he no longer recognized, being dissected and judged. The sensation was profoundly unsettling. The floor seemed to wobble beneath his feet.

His hands fidgeted, picking at the loose threads on his jeans. He felt a burning sensation in his throat, a desire to explain, to defend, to justify himself. But the words wouldn't come.

He wandered into the kitchen, his steps unsteady. He opened the fridge and stared blankly at the contents. He wasn’t hungry. He wasn’t anything. He just wanted to shut the door and lock it forever.
