It was as if the world was closing in on Emily. The walls of her apartment seemed to be shrinking, the ceiling pressing down on her. The air was stale, heavy with the scent of old memories. Her heart hammered against her ribs.

She moved through the apartment like a ghost. Each step felt laborious. She could barely focus, her mind racing, looping back on the same agonizing thoughts. The words, the pictures, the vulnerability… it was too much.

She slumped onto her couch, the cushions offering no comfort. She wanted to scream, to weep, to disappear. She reached for the phone, then hesitated, her hand hovering in mid-air.
