The doctor’s casual explanation, "a clerical error," was a cruel understatement. Maria's breath hitched, each inhale a struggle. Her eyes darted around the room, searching for an anchor, something to ground her in this bewildering reality. The walls seemed to vibrate.

She gripped her purse so tightly, her knuckles turned white. She felt an urgent need to flee, to escape the suffocating weight of the situation. She stood and walked towards the exit, her legs unsteady, the world blurring at the edges. She had to get away, to find someplace where the walls weren't closing in.
