"Impossible," thought Alex. His hands shook as he reread the document. His entire life – his past, his present, his future – scrambled. He was struggling to breathe in the suffocating silence of his office. He clenched his fists, feeling a profound sense of injustice, of something being ripped away.

He pushed back from his desk, the chair scraping against the floor. He needed to move, to do something, anything. He walked towards the window, the city lights below seeming distant and unreal. The world seemed to shrink around him. The air was thin, and he felt like he was drowning.
