"The Cozy Corner Cafe" was no more. The announcement on the window, printed in bold, stark letters, hit me like a physical blow. My steps faltered, my legs suddenly heavy. The familiar scent of coffee, usually so comforting, now seemed to taunt me. I stared at the empty chairs inside, the tables devoid of the warmth of conversation. I felt a strange detachment, as if I was watching a bad movie. My heart pounded in my chest, a rapid, frantic rhythm against the silent backdrop of the closed cafe.
