The realtor’s voice, chirpy and upbeat, grated on her nerves. "Just a few more signatures, and then everything is finalized!" Her smile felt glued to her face, a parody of happiness. She glanced around the living room, crammed with boxes, each one containing a piece of her life. The scent of old wood and forgotten things hung in the air, a heavy perfume.

She’d spent the morning sorting through photo albums, each image a painful reminder of a past she could no longer hold onto. Now, the sun streamed through the dusty windows, illuminating the emptiness that was rapidly engulfing her.

“I… I need a minute,” she stammered, her voice catching in her throat. She fumbled with the clasp of her purse, her hands shaking so badly that she could barely manage it. The weight of it felt impossible to bear.
