Gemotions

The light from the desk lamp felt inadequate, swallowed by the shadows in the room. Emily found a photograph of her grandmother, her face obscured, standing near a horse racing track with a woman. The family had always said her grandmother hated gambling. A cold fear gripped her. Her vision blurred. The walls of her grandfather's study seemed to move closer.

She had to get out. The air felt thin. She leaped up from the chair and the sudden movement made her sway. She had to get outside, to breathe.
