The small, cramped space felt like a pressure cooker, and it was beginning to get to Emily. Each second seemed to stretch into an eternity. She kept glancing at her watch, the numbers mocking her. She ran a hand through her hair, dislodging the neat arrangement she’d spent an hour crafting that morning.

"Do you think they know we're in here?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper. David, her coworker, gave her a reassuring nod, but his eyes betrayed his own uncertainty. Her presentation was tomorrow morning, and she hadn’t finished rehearsing. She hadn't even started.

She felt her chest tighten, and she took a series of rapid, shallow breaths. The floor of the elevator felt like it was tilting, like the entire world was about to spin out of control.
