"Unbelievable," Clara muttered, staring at the tangled mess of branches. The fallen birch, a silver birch, had landed almost entirely on her property. She clenched her jaw. She had a meeting in an hour, and this…this was an uninvited disaster.

She felt a wave of dizziness, and had to grab the railing for support. Her breath came in short, shallow gasps. She glanced at the clock on the wall. Time was running out. She felt like she was trapped in a box that was slowly getting smaller. The walls were closing in, and she had no way out.
