The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the kitchen, a familiar comfort that usually soothed Amelia. Today, even the scent did not help. She felt a knot forming in her stomach, twisting tighter with each passing moment. She was sorting through some old files when she came across a forgotten safe deposit box key. The box contained paperwork. The paperwork contained the truth.

She read the documents, the words blurring before her eyes. The sheer volume of money shocked her into silence. Her vision tunneled, the world narrowing to the small, cold papers in her hands. She felt a strange tingling sensation in her limbs, as if they were slowly shutting down. Her breath came in shallow, ragged gasps. She wanted to scream.
