She felt a prickling sensation on her skin, as if every nerve ending was exposed. The music from the backyard party next door was a constant assault, a relentless barrage of sound. She rubbed her arms, trying to ward off the chill that had settled deep within her.

The notices pinned to the door from the landlord. The notes from the neighbors. Each one, a fresh wave of anxiety. She felt the weight of it all pressing down on her, crushing her.

She looked around the room, at the familiar objects, the photographs, the books. They offered no solace, no comfort. She felt a desperate need to tear something apart, to break free from this cage of sound.
