Gemotions

The classroom was a disaster zone. Papers littered every surface. Supplies were strewn across the floor. The noise level from the students during their study period was a relentless assault on Ms. Bell's senses. She felt a throbbing headache blooming.

A small, plain paper bag sat on her desk. Inside, she found a handmade mug, painted with a scene of mountains and a serene lake. A sticky note was attached to the mug. "For your peace of mind," it said, in a familiar teenage scrawl. It was from Leo, a student who had constantly tested her patience.

She picked up the mug, her fingers tracing the rough texture of the paint. She felt a unexpected tremor in her hands. She thought about his struggles and her own. Slowly, a small smile touched her face as she pictured herself drinking a warm drink from the mug.
