The afternoon sun, slanting through the dusty windows, cast long shadows across the classroom. Mr. Davies leaned back in his chair, trying to decipher the illegible handwriting on a stack of essays. The students’ constant chatter seemed to grate on his nerves. He felt a profound sense of weariness, a bone-deep fatigue that seeped into his very marrow.

A large, heavy box arrived, addressed to him. He wrestled it open, revealing a meticulously crafted wooden box. Inside, nestled on a bed of velvet, was a collection of vintage fountain pens and a personalized letter. The return address was from Daniel, a former student who’d always struggled to express himself in writing.

“Thank you, Mr. Davies,” the letter read, “for teaching me how to tell my story.” He picked up one of the pens, its weight and craftsmanship surprisingly comforting. The room seemed suddenly a little less oppressive, the weight on his shoulders eased a fraction.
