"Another one?" Ben muttered, staring at the notification on his phone. His neighbor, Mr. Harrison, was posting more pictures of his latest vacation to the Maldives. Ben was still trying to pay off his student loans. His own life, by comparison, felt…restricted.

He swiped at the phone with a jerky movement, tossing it onto the sofa. The screen landed face down. The silence in his apartment was deafening. He felt a hot flush creep up his neck.

He felt the need for movement - paced the length of the living room, hands clenched into fists, staring at his shoes. His next shift at the restaurant seemed a million miles away, an insurmountable task.
