Liam slumped onto the worn sofa, the springs protesting under his weight. His gaze drifted to the sleek new sports car parked in front of Mr. and Mrs. Olsen's house. They were always jetting off somewhere, always dressed to the nines. Liam was barely scraping by, patching up his old car in his driveway.

He reached for the remote, but his hand froze mid-air. He felt a sudden tightness in his chest, making it hard to breathe. The world seemed to shrink, closing in on him. His throat constricted.

He just sat.
