The email notification popped up: "Grade for Anthropology 101 Posted." Her heart hammered against her ribs. She almost didn't want to look. She clicked it open, a bead of sweat trickling down her temple. The "D" seemed to leap off the screen.

She let out a shaky breath, then another. Her vision swam. She felt a strange tingling in her fingertips. She stood up, paced her room, trying to force the feeling down. She needed to do something, anything, to break free from this pressure, this crushing sense of disappointment.
