David felt a knot tighten in his chest. His hands clenched into fists so tight his nails were digging into his palms. He didn’t bother to read the entire notification. He knew what it said. It was all he could think about. Everything he had worked for, the sacrifices he made, the future he envisioned, crumbling before his eyes.

He stood abruptly, knocking over his chair. He didn't bother to pick it up. He needed air, needed to move, needed to escape this suffocating feeling. He walked out of the classroom, blindly, into the bustling corridor, the sounds of conversation and laughter grating on his nerves.
