"Unbelievable," Clara muttered, the word a harsh exhale. She was sitting in the library, surrounded by the comforting scent of old books, yet felt utterly alone. She felt a dull ache behind her eyes, a prelude to a headache she knew was coming.

She ran a hand over the smooth wood of the table, seeking some kind of grounding. The library, normally a sanctuary, now felt like a prison. The silence amplified her thoughts, the anxieties that swirled within her. Every detail of her day, every little thing seemed suddenly incredibly hard. She felt a growing, desperate need to simply vanish.
