The world felt like it was tilting on its axis for David. The hospital room felt small, and the silence was deafening. He hated waiting, hated the sterile environment, the lack of control. He kept fiddling with the cap of his water bottle, unscrewing it, screwing it back on, over and over again. His chest felt tight, as if a weight was pressing down on him.

A nurse entered, her face carefully neutral. “Mr. Thompson?” she asked. David nodded, his throat suddenly dry. She gestured towards a man sitting across the room.

"Dr. Ramirez would like to speak with both of you together," she announced. Then, she walked out, leaving the two men to sit in strained silence.
