A cold sweat slicked down Mark’s back as the jackhammer started up. His carefully crafted morning routine, the precise brewing of his coffee, the serene silence of his study, all dissolved into chaos with the first brutal thud. He stood frozen, gripping the mug so tightly that his knuckles were white.

He abruptly dropped the mug into the sink with a loud CLANG. He had to think of a plan. He had been planning for this day for weeks, the day his neighbor's renovations would start. This would destroy his ability to concentrate.

He paced the confines of his small apartment, the footsteps erratic and fast. He looked at his stack of important books, then back at the window. The vibrations made the glass in the window vibrate, too. He needed to find a new place to stay for a while.
