It started with a low rumble, which quickly escalated into a roar. Then, the rhythmic pounding began. John slammed his book shut, the sound echoing in the sudden quiet of his study. His breathing grew shallow, quick.

He felt the walls vibrating. He rose from his chair, pacing the room. He ran his hand through his hair, tugging at the strands. This was not supposed to happen.

He could not concentrate. He walked to the window, staring out at the chaos. He needed to take control. He began to form a plan.
