He found himself walking back and forth, from the window overlooking the yard to the front door, his energy running in frantic circles. He kept checking his watch, the seconds ticking by in agonizing slowness. This wasn't supposed to happen.

He could feel the blood pounding in his temples. He clutched his chest. The neighbor’s actions felt like a personal assault. They had never discussed this. He felt a deep, instinctive unease, a sense of something important being taken away.

He had to do something, anything, but the feeling of helplessness weighed him down. His hands were clasped in front of him, and he could barely unclench them.
